Lena’s Market–A Success Story
Lena’s Market is a convenience store located at 2305 W. Broad St. A busy corner store in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus, Lena’s has never had trouble attracting customers. The owner, Yazan, asked to participate in FFH because he was aware that nutrition is an important issue in his community. FFH worked with Yazan to implement new marketing materials such as a new endcap and store signage, and provided technical support on implementing changes in the store to allow healthier foods to be added to the existing inventory. Lena’s quickly became one of the highest performing stores in our network, adding new healthy items to their inventory and using FFH’s marketing tools to make those items available and attractive to customers. The store also went above and beyond in making fresh food available to the neighborhood kids by providing fruit as a snack to families on their way to school and youth programming, free of charge. Lena’s participation in the program earned them $4,000 in capital improvements, which they used to purchase a new 6-door cooler, improving their capacity to stock and sell perishable healthy foods.
Lena’s is just one example of the impact that FFH has had on the Columbus community. Here are a few more ways that FFH is trying to help:
